LET ME EAT CAKE

I had a day of culture and cake-eating with my dad last Wednesday.  First port of call – the cafe at the Wallace Collection.  I had a delicious glass of homemade pink lemonade and sampled the walnut-packed coffee cake and densely squidgy chocolate cake, which was delicious but so filling I couldn’t actually finish it.  I could quite happily have sat there all day, trying out their apple pie and carrot cake; it’s a lovely space, unexpectedly airy and glamorous with a very Parisian atmosphere.

After a wander round the bronzes, lunch at the Angel in the Fields and a tour of Marylebone High Street’s charity shops, we decided that more cake was needed and nipped into Paul’s.   Their rhubarb tart is always perfect, with tender chunks of rhubarb set in a sweet custard with a shiny glaze.  I also sampled a frangipane tart, which I ended up having to take home in a napkin due to overindulgence...
